Kids Ride Easier to Have Fun Desert Recreation District Gets Donated Van for Transport

Indio, CA – Palm Springs resident Greg Hough recently handed over the keys of his beloved 2001 Chevrolet Astro Van to the Desert Recreation District. The eight-passenger van had been the family’s primary mode of transportation since his two sons were children.

Now that his kids are grown and self-sufficient, he wants other children to have the same benefit. On Friday, July 20, 2012, Greg donated his van to the Desert Recreation District so that more children will be able to attend the many fun recreational and sports activities offered by the District.

A recreation major in college, Mr. Hough always felt like he wanted to do something to help out a Recreation Department. “I learned about all of the communities served by the District, the programs and activities available and the great need in getting kids to the various programs. I hope the van will be used to haul lots of kids around to different activities.” he commented.

This van brings the total to five vans now available to help with the District’s transportation needs. Transportation is especially important for programs that satisfy special interests such as Day Camp. “We are very grateful to Mr. Hough,” commented Kevin Kalman, the District’s General Manager. With Fall Programs such as After School coming up, transportation needs will increase. “The addition of this van will allow kids and seniors greater access to programs and special events,” he concluded.

Desert Recreation offers fun programs and activities for everyone. There are still openings in several of the District’s summer programs. Beat the heat while you and your family keep active and moving.
