INDIO: Recreational Activities for Kids Start Friday with Campout for All Ages

Recreational Activities for Kids Start Friday with Campout for All Ages

Beat the Heat with Campout, Summer Camps and Aquatics Programs throughout Valley

Indio, CA – Temperatures in triple digits and boredom can be a recipe for a long summer for kids in the Coachella Valley.  That is why Desert Recreation District has stepped up efforts to create enticing recreational programs for our kids this summer.  Operation Splash kicked off the Summer Aquatics programs last Saturday with enthusiastic participation by kids and their families, but that is not all Desert Recreation District has to offer.

This Saturday, June 8, marks the start of the District’s Summer Camp Programs with the School’s Out for Summer Campout.  Open to kids of all ages, the La Quinta Community Center Park hosts the popular all-nighter event.  Registration is available online or at the Campout between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. for a night filled with family, friends, fun, games, star gazing, and yummy kid-approved food.  The $15/$20 fee per person includes a BBQ hot dog dinner, S’mores and a chocolate chip pancake breakfast on Saturday morning. Bring a sleeping bag or set up a tent to stake your own camp area.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  What better way to start the summer vacation than with a camp out near home?

Summer Day Camp programs for children ages 5 to 14 begin on June 10 throughout the Valley. Some of life’s best summer memories are created at Day Camp.  Transportation for campers from outlying areas is available for an additional fee.  And, for the Specialty Interests or Field Trip campers, special programs, camps, and activities are scheduled.  From Volleyball and Flag Football to Equestrian and Leadership Training, or even the popular Recreation Outdoor Club (The ROC), there is definitely something fun for everyone.
To stay cool during the dog days of summer, dive into the Desert Recreation District’s numerous Swim Programs, held at several valley pools.  In addition to open swims, Desert Recreation District has over 200+ swim lessons and water programs scheduled for various age groups, including: Penguins (new swimmers ages 6½ – 11); Stingrays (swimmers age 6 ½ to 10); Barracudas (swimmers age 7 to 13); and Sharks (experienced swimmers age 8 to 13). In addition, the District offers Jr. Lifeguard and Water Polo programs (fees may apply). Meet you at the pool!

Beat the heat while you and your family keep active and moving.  Desert Recreation District offers all kinds of fun for everyone. For more information about Desert Recreation District’s Summer Programs or to register online:  www.MyRecreationDistrict.com or 760.347.3484.
