Top Tech Challenge Winners to be Awarded with Scholarships

Rancho Cucamonga, Ca – On April 15, 2017, Universal Technical Institute (UTI) will award ten SoCal high school students with $29,500 in scholarships for exemplary performance in a series of auto technician tests at the Top Tech Challenge event. The top three teams will also receive trophies and Snap On tools for their high school’s shop class. In total, UTI Rancho Cucamonga will host 13 teams from high schools in San Bernardino, Riverside and Los Angeles counties to compete in diagnostic challenges, precision measuring, relay testing and written exams for all-things auto.

Winning Teams will receive:

1st Place: Awarded $10,000 in scholarship tuition, Snap On toolbox including tools (valued at $2,300)
2nd Place: Awarded $7,500 in scholarship tuition, tools (valued at $1,700)
3rd Place: Awarded $5,000 in scholarship tuition, tools (valued at $1,400)

Top Tech Challenge is an event held at UTI campuses nationwide to connect with the technicians of tomorrow, provide a valuable education opportunity and nurture positive relationships with school district representatives, counselors and auto shop teachers. Every student competing proves the value of hands-on learning and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) application for in-demand careers. The U.S. Department of Labor reports there will be more than 1.2 million jobs in the diesel, automotive, motorcycle and marine industries in the United States by the year 2024. To reach that total, the transportation industry will have to fill more than 37,000 technician job openings on average every year. [1]

An additional $1,000 in scholarship tuition will be awarded to each team member that placed 4th to 10th in the competition.
