Insectival at the San Bernardino County Museum

Visitors of all ages can take a hands-on journey into the world of bugs at the San Bernardino County Museum during Insectival on Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All Insectival activities are included with paid museum general admission.

Explore the fascinating world of arthropods—insects, arachnids, myriapods, and more. Family fun activities include insect games, take-home creepy-crawly craft creations, Believe It or Not bugs trivia, insect stories and activities, and live insect encounters in the museum’s courtyard and Exploration Station. A large variety of snacks and meals will be on sale all day by the “Best Hot Dog Ever” food vendor.

“Insectival is one of our most popular family events,” said Carla Rosenkild, museum educator. “Children and adults all enjoy the company of creatures such as our Australian leaf insects. Spiders are always a big hit, and you certainly don’t want to miss meeting Rosy the tarantula.”

In addition to ongoing bug activities, presentations are scheduled throughout the day (although schedules and events are subject to change depending upon the mood of the insects involved).

All About Bugs, 10:30, 12:30, 2:00, 3:00. Learn what it takes to be an insect, an arachnid, or other kinds of bugs. Meet some live bugs up close and personal. Presented by San Bernardino County Museum Educators (good for all ages)

Cockroach Races! 11:00, noon, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00. Which Madagascar hissing cockroach will win!

Read-A-Bug 10:30, 11:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30. Join us for some wild reading adventures. Bugs make appearances as literary heroes with some exciting new titles and some perennial favorites. Related movement and observation activities help round out the experience.
