John Adams’ ‘A Flowering Tree’ Blossoms in Riverside

(Riverside, Calif.) Riverside Lyric Opera’s production of John Adams’ “A Flowering Tree” is set to blossom at the University of California, Riverside Barbara and Art Culver Center of the Arts in Downtown Riverside on November 11 and 13. This production is a collaborative project of the Riverside Lyric Opera and UCR Culver Center of the Arts.

The latest opera from celebrated composer John Adams (Nixon in China) “A Flowering Tree” was inspired by Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and is based on an ancient folktale from India, telling the story of Kumudha, a poor but beautiful girl, who in order to help her family transforms into a flowering tree, whose blossoms bring her both joy and pain, love and redemption.

“A Flowering Tree” will make its debut in the Inland Empire under the creative direction of Manuel Alberto Aybar and is a collaborative production of Riverside Lyric Opera and UCR’s Culver Center of the Arts.  Tickets for ” A Flowering Tree” are available for a cost of $50, $75 or  $150.
