Junior Lifeguard Training

Learn What it Takes to Help Save lives

Fontana, California, January 20, 2011. The Mayor and City Council invite parents to register their kids, ages 9 through 15, for Jr. Lifeguard training at the Fontana Park Aquatic Center.

The class will teach students the basics of being a junior lifeguard. It will cover the skills needed to respond to emergencies and prepare them mentally and physically to become a lifeguard. At the end of the class, students will receive a certificate of completion, and those aged 15-and-a-half will have a chance to sign up for training to become a Lifeguard.

“The Jr. Lifeguard program is like a day camp. We do it to get kids ready to become lifeguards and work at an aquatic center or beach,” said Megan Wolfe, Community Services Coordinator for the Aquatic Center. “The program consists of learning CPR, First-Aid, being at work on time and giving 110 percent. They will learn what a distressed swimmer looks like, and how to help someone in need.”

The training is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There are three sessions. The first session is from February 1st to 24th, the second from March 1st to 24th, and the third from April 5th to 28th. Training is $50 per session for residents and $60 for non-residents.

Jr. Lifeguard training is held at the Fontana Park Aquatic Center, located at 15610 Summit Avenue, in Fontana Park. To learn more about this class, or upcoming events, please call the Aquatic Center at (909) 854-5111 or visit online at aquatics.fontana.org.
