KVCR Announces New Leadership And Original Shows

Keither Birkfeld KVCR

San Bernardino, CA – San Bernardino Community College District today announced a leadership reorganization under which Keith Birkfeld will succeed Mark Lágrimas as KVCR TV/FM’s interim General Manager, effective immediately. Birkfeld, who joined the station earlier this year as Director of Operations, will now oversee all aspects of Inland Southern California’s primary PBS and NPR news affiliate station on TV channel 24 and 91.9 FM. He will also manage First Nations Experience (FNX), the first and only nationally distributed TV channel exclusively devoted to Native American and World Indigenous content, created in partnership between KVCR and the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.

“The future for KVCR looks bright with new leadership and new high-quality programming that our region needs and deserves,” said Chancellor Bruce Baron. “We thank Mark for his service during a critical time of transition in KVCR’s history and wish him all the best.”

Birkfeld, a Riverside County resident, is a media industry veteran. Having spent the early part of his career as a producer for independent films, he transitioned into an executive role at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, working for six years in MGM Worldwide TV Distribution and as a development executive in MGM Worldwide TV Production. Previously he was Vice President of Worldwide Distribution for New Films International, helping bring numerous feature films and television series to broadcasters and multi-platform digital partners in over 80 countries.

“KVCR is a beacon of culture and education for our region, and I am humbled to have this once in a lifetime opportunity to lead the station at such an exciting and dynamic time,” said Birkfeld. “We’ve got a remarkable slate of new and original productions that reflect our public mission of creating a more vibrant community. I look forward to collaborating with educators, business leaders, creative innovators and community members to seize our future.”
