LA QUINTA: Family Health and Support Network Honors Time for Change Foundation Director

Kim Carter receives “Community Pioneer Award”
La Quinta, CA  – Family Health and Support Network (FHSN) , a non-profit foster family agency in the Coachella Valley, honored African American culture and heritage this past Saturday, June 23 at its 5th annual Juneteenth event at the La Quinta Resort. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, celebrates the date the last African American slaves in the United States were freed.

Several awards were presented at Saturday’s event to honor individuals who embodied this year’s event theme of “Building Resilience in African American Families.” Awards were presented in five categories: human services, education, community, business and entertainment arts.

Kim Carter from San Bernardino, CA, Founder & Executive Director of Time for Change Foundation was the award recipient for the “Community Pioneer Award,” alongside Tracy Reed, Director of the Indio Boys & Girls Club. Another notable award recipient was Inland Empire’s Josiah Bruny, Founder/CEO of “Music Changes Lives,” who received the Entertainment/Arts Award.

Kim Carter received several nominations according to Sandra Austin, Co-founder and CEO of FHSN. As the founder of Time for Change Foundation, Kim has made it her mission to help women and children make the transition from homelessness and recidivism to self-sufficiency. Today she is a powerful voice for change and women who bear the scars of poverty, homelessness, and incarceration.

“This award had such special meaning for me because it really connects with my spirit and my purpose in life which is to help people break free from bondage. I’m looking forward to working with the Coachella Valley community,” said Kim Carter.

Other awardees included Burnese Calhoun from FHSN, who received the Human Services Award, Alicia Shonte Berridge from Rising Stars Business Academy who received the Education Award, and Rich Wallace from the Southern California Black Chamber of Commerce, recipient of the Business Award.
