Learn How to Build a Robot!

(Riverside, CA)  Are you interested in robotics?  On Saturday, August 20, learn how to build a robot, in about 3 hours, no experience necessary. Sponsored by the Riverside Robotics Society, the event will be held from 10 am until 2 pm at the Woodcrest Community Library, 16625 Krameria in Riverside.

Come join us and build an Arduino-based robot from a kit in about 3-hours.  We’ve created a special program that is perfect for those interested in learning robotics.  Here is the event outline:

If time permits, we will experiment with either a line following or Sumo bot program.

The entire class will be taught by Walter Martinez the designer of the robot kit that will be used in the build a robot program.  Walter is on the faculty of Cal State Long Beach where he teaches Electrical Engineering. Walter has his Bachelor and Masters in Computer/Electronics Technology and Curriculum Development which is perfect for teaching STEM-based curriculums.

This program is open to public according to John McCarthy, President of the Robotics Society.  “Walter is teaching this 3-4 hour class for free.  All you need to do is buy the kit!” he said.

“Buy your kit and bring it to the class along with a laptop (Windows or Apple),” he said. “Walter will then show you how to build the kit together.   This is a tremendous opportunity for teachers, DIYers and anyone interested in learning robotics.”

Walter Martinez has taught robotics at many colleges and was a robotics expert for the movie Transformers.  The robot kit costs $175 and includes shipping.  You can buy your kit here: http://www.RoboticsCity.com/

Soft drinks, water, coffee, hot tea and pizza will be provided at lunch time.  Young adults aged 14 and above are welcome to attend with a parent.
