Literary Laureate, Gayle Brandeis, to speak at Library
On Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at 7 PM, Gayle Brandeis will be speaking at the Ovitt Family Community Library. Ms. Brandeis will talk about The Woman Writer’s Journey. The author has been writing poems and stories since she was a child. Her poetry, fiction, and essays have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies and have earned multiple awards as well as excellent critical reviews.
Ms. Brandeis was recently named the Inlandia Literary Laureate for 2012 – 2014. In this position the author will undertake creative literary projects to engage the community while focusing on writers and writing in the Inland Empire. She is particularly interested in reaching people who have never tried to write their own story. During her two year term, Ms. Brandeis plans to focus on the themes of exploring self and place, and releasing the imagination.
Gayle Brandeis is the author of Fruitflesh: Seeds of Inspiration for Women Who Write (HarperOne), Dictionary Poems (Pudding House Publications), the novels The Book of Dead Birds (HarperCollins), which won Barbara Kingsolver’s Bellwether Prize for fiction in Support of a Literature of Social Change, Self Storage (Ballantine), Delta Girls (Ballantine), and her first novel for young readers, My Life with the Lincolns (Holt).
