Local Nonprofit Shelter Broken Into

San Bernardino, CA, September 16, 2013 – Time for Change Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing Emergency Shelter and supportive services for homeless women and children was burglarized and thrashed last night. Apparently, on September 10, 2013 while the women and children were in therapeutic “Mommy & Me” classes.

It was total chaos when the families came home to see the place thrashed, beds turned upside down, drawers pulled out and kids clothing strewn across the floor. There were several items reported missing: bus passes, laundry coins, audio speakers, dress shoes from Payless, and one of our client’s job-search interview outfit still wrapped in the bag. While many of the belongings were not of great monetary value, it’s all they had. One of our clients had a sentimental bracelet given to her from her grandmother who passed away last year and while it may have cost $25.00 originally but its value to our client was priceless.

“I try hard not to take these things so personal, but inside I’m crying because I feel the women’s pain and the hopelessness that arises when they feel like giving up when something like this happens” says Kim Carter, Executive Director of Time for Change Foundation. Remember, that these families are amongst the least of us and working so hard at rebuilding their lives and are making the transition from homelessness into self-sufficiency.

“We are all devastated at Time for Change Foundation by this event,” said John Kunkel, the organization’s Communications Director. “We are living in times when the current economic climate isn’t doing well, and the fact that charitable contributions are extremely low makes it very difficult for an organization like ours.”
