Manufacturers Partner with Contract Education

September 30th, 2021, Fontana, CA: San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) presented resources available to manufacturers through local community college programs to help manufacturers with staffing shortages. SBCCD team members Deanna Krehbiel, Interim Executive Director for Economic Development & Corporate Training and Wendy Lester, Interim Manager of Workforce Development for Economic Development & Corporate Training (EDCT) presented opportunities provided by the Contract Education program.  

  

The event took place virtually on Thursday, September 23rd.  Attendees learned how Contract Education can provide training for current employees, as well as help manufacturers find workers. The program offers workforce solutions to businesses who have struggled to find skilled laborers. Deanna Krehbiel, MBA, CCT, has served for nearly twelve years at SBCCD providing customized rapid response not-for-credit training for economic and workforce development in our community. In addition, she helped establish the statewide community college contract education collaborative. Over 20 colleges participate statewide to collaborate on training projects, bring awareness to upskilling and reskilling needs, and share best practices.    

 

Wendy Lester, MBA, CCT, has served for over three years at SBCCD providing customized not-for-credit training to businesses in the Inland Empire. Wendy currently manages incumbent worker programs, including EDCT’s advanced skills training program through the Employment Training Panel (ETP). 

 

The Zoom meeting featured local company FabFitFun. California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (CMTC) sponsored a virtual plant tour film that which was shown at the event. Every month the Manufacturers’ Council showcases different manufacturers who get the opportunity to share with attendees, as well as have a plant tour video made.  The Manufacturers’ Council offers monthly “Happy Hour” conferences for attendees to learn valuable information about the industry and how to help their companies’ thrive and is funded in major part by a grant from the California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (CMTC).  October’s event will take place in person and give members the opportunity to network with each other at Escape Brewery in Redlands.

 

The Manufacturers’ Council of the Inland Empire (MCIE), the voice of regional manufacturers, supports education and workforce training on behalf of manufacturers throughout the region, offering expertise in a variety of topics including innovative workforce solutions.
