MCIE- State of Manufacturing to Explore Workforce Shortages

As the nation experiences one of the most amazing manufacturing come-backs in history, regional manufacturers are faced with solving expanding production with reduced numbers of skilled workers.

Manufacturers and supporters of manufacturing will gather at “The State of Manufacturing – A National, State and Local View” on February 20, 2020 at the DoubleTree Hilton in Ontario, CA.

The dinner event, presented by the MCIE, Manufacturers’ Council of the Inland Empire, will feature top leaders in the industry who will participate in a panel discussion of issues and solutions.

Roy Paulson, manufacturer and Board Member of National Association of Manufacturers, will share insights from Washington D.C. related to the USMCA Trade deal, Phase 1 of the China trade deal, and their potential impacts. Paulson’s company has been working overtime to meet orders from Chinese hospital officials for protective medical goggles to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Lance Hastings, President, California Manufacturing and Technology Association, will share policy, patent, and workforce expansion from a state perspective. Ms. Kusum Kavia, local manufacturer and President of Combustion Associates, will highlight regional activities and investments designed to support the manufacturing industry. Paul Granillo, President of IEEP, will act as moderator and present initiatives related to the findings from a Brookings Institute study on regional manufacturing. To wrap it up, Charles Henkels, Project Director, California Apprenticeship Initiative, will discuss solutions to workforce training in advanced manufacturing.

Additional presentations will be made on the training dollars invested in the region and benefits reaped by manufacturers, the nationally recognized and state approved Apprenticeship Programs available now, and the new, High Desert Training Center that will be opening soon.

Additional information including how to purchase tickets is available at the Manufacturers’ Council website, www.mfgcouncilie.com/events. Pre-registration is required. The event will include a mixer with cash bar, dinner, and the programming.
