McKeon Statement on House Passage of Bill to Reduce Spending

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) made the following statement following House passage of H.R. 1, a continuing resolution that cuts discretionary spending by $100 billion dollars compared to President Obama’s FY11 budget request:

“House Republicans took a significant step forward this week to rein in out-of-control spending in Washington and to get our fiscal house in order by making one of the largest reductions in non-security, discretionary spending in the history of the nation.  By passing more than $100 billion in budget cuts through this monumental continuing resolution, House Republicans made good on a promise vowed to the American people in the Pledge to America last year.

“Washington has been trying to tax and spend the country’s way back to prosperity, which has only lead to economic uncertainty and volatility.  With passage of H.R. 1, House Republicans have moved the country towards achieving a more stable economic environment aimed at encouraging private-sector investment and increased job creation.   I hope the Senate will now move towards passage of this important legislation as well.”
