McKeon Statement on One-Year Anniversary of "ObamaCare"

Buck McKeon

Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon today (R-Santa Clarita) issued the following statement on the one-year anniversary of “ObamaCare.”

“Today marks the one-year anniversary of ObamaCare, a law that is a travesty to the American people, American businesses, and our nation’s economy.  Instead of making health care more affordable for more Americans, premiums will continue to rise under this law and options for care will be limited.  Employers are facing increased costs, regulations, and mandates, which is placing small business owners in a state of unease, lowering confidence and thwarting job creation.  Even large business owners such as Howard Schultz, the CEO of Starbucks, agree and say that the current health care law will burden small businesses and stifle investment from new business ventures.

“My fellow Republicans and I passed legislation through the House to repeal ObamaCare, and we will continue to fight against funding the law.  With the economy just beginning to come out of a recession, we cannot afford the incredible costs of this poorly designed law.  What we need instead is a more efficient and effective health care law that allows Americans to cross state lines for competitive health insurance coverage, that maintains a strong patient-doctor relationship, that lowers – not raises – costs, that improves access to care, and that fosters innovation in medical science.  It is my hope that Senate Democrats will join us in recognizing the hit ObamaCare will cause the economy and to our nation’s health care system.  And although Senate Democrats have repeatedly turned their backs on Americans by refusing attempts to come together for a more sensible healthcare option, I will continue to push for a revised health care bill that will provide the country with a more common-sense and improved healthcare plan.”
