MSJC offers course this fall for careers in Homeland Security/Anti-Terrorism

San Jacinto, CA – Mt. San Jacinto College is offering a new administration of justice course called Introduction to Terrorism and Homeland Security. The course will start on Aug. 13 with the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester.

Training for a career in homeland security prepares students for jobs that protect the safety of U.S. citizens. “These workers help to reduce our Nation’s vulnerabilities and to minimize the damage from catastrophic events” by preparing for, preventing, and reacting to everything from pandemics to hurricanes to terrorism, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This course explores the historical development of domestic and international terrorism, provides a foundational knowledge of current terrorist groups and their tactics, and explores law enforcement response to these events. Additionally, students will gain an understanding of FEMA disaster protocols, response to different major incidents, and be able to obtain certificates from several FEMA online independent study courses.

The course represents not only a strong scholarly approach to the study of terrorism, but also incorporates the real-world experience of federal agents and police officers tasked with preventing terrorism in our country. Homeland Security has jobs available in fields that include Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection, Transportation and Security Administration, and the U.S. Secret Service.
