Museum family workshops on prehistoric rock art
How did Native Americans create rock art? Families can find out at one of a series of workshops, “Petroglyphs and Pictographs,” at the San Bernardino County Museum on Saturday, March 31. Hour-long workshops start at 11 a.m., noon, and 1, 2, and 3 p.m. The cost for each workshop is $1 per person plus general museum admission. Workshop tickets will be available at the museum’s front desk at 9:00 that morning. Workshops are limited in size.
“When you make a petroglyph, you carve into the rock. When you make a pictograph, you paint on the rock,” explained Nancy Kirkwood, museum educator. “In these workshops, visitors will be able to try both techniques using authentic Indian symbols.” Participants can take home a sample of their personal rock art.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 am to 5pm. General admission is $8 (adult), $6 (military or senior), $5 (student), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.

The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.
