“MyVoteCountsCA.org” Petition Signing Campaign Will Reach Millions of Voters through Radio Ads, Online Advertising, Grassroots and Online Organizing.
Inland Empire local government, business, labor, community groups and other redevelopment supporters will hold a news conference to kick off a massive paid advertising campaign to engage voters this week to take action and sign a petition to stop the State legislature from voting on a budget that raids local government redevelopment funds in violation of the state constitution.
Just last week, Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod, as part of the Budget Conference Committee, voted to abolish redevelopment. It is the sincere hope of our local officials that Senator Negrete McLeod changes her vote during floor sessions this week to adhere to the will of the voters and so that important low income housing, public safety projects and flood protection can continue in our area.

The stage for the press conference is Paseo Verde Apartments, a fifty unit high quality townhome style affordable housing development. Phase II is currently in construction, providing an additional forty‐six units to very‐low income families (with incomes at or below 50% of the median income). RDA is a vital component to providing critical housing that is affordable and of high quality for families in the Inland Empire. Not only do these developments provide affordable housing that is vital to this area, but they eliminated blight along Valley Blvd. and developed a standard for this area in the future.
In November 2010, voters passed Prop 22 by an overwhelming majority. The measure stopped State raids of local redevelopment funds. Despite this clear voter mandate, legislators could vote on a budget this week that takes these important local funds in blatant violation of Prop. 22 and the will of the voters.
The “MyVoteCountsCA.org” campaign will educate and engage voters to sign a petition warning legislators not to ignore their recent amendment to the constitution in Prop. 22 and asking them to respect the rule of law in California.
The “MyVoteCountsCA.org” effort will include:
• Statewide radio ads
• Extensive online and Facebook advertising to drive people to the website to sign petitions
• A massive grassroots petition gathering effort by mayors, council members and other local and community leaders over the next week to gather signatures from voters in front of city hall, retail stores and community gatherings
