NAACP Riverside Branch ACT-SO Announce Recruitment of Students for Local Competitions

The Riverside Branch NAACP is proud to announce the recruitment of students for the 2013 Academic Cultural Technological Scientific Olympics (Act-So) local competitions.

Act-So, founded in 1978 by the late Vernon Jarrett, is designed to recruit, stimulate, improve and encourage high academics and cultural achievement among African American high school students. The competition consists of 26 categories which include: Performing Arts, Humanities, Visual Arts, Science and Entrepreneurship.

Students who win a gold medal at the local competitions are eligible to go to National where they will compete with their peers from all over the United States and have the opportunity to win scholarships, monetary awards and a lap top computer.

Act-So, often referred to as the Olympics of the mind, centers around the dedication and commitment of the community. This year’s national competitions will take place in Orlando Florida, Jul. 11-14, 2013.
