New Course for Teachers Offers Way to Enhance Student Achievement

The College of Extended Learning at California State University, San Bernardino offers a one-day, information-packed course for K-6 grade teachers, middle school language arts and reading teachers, and special education and support teachers. “Response to Intervention,” or RTI, provides a systematic, data-driven approach to instruction that can benefit every student by eliminating achievement gaps. This course will show teachers how to practice RTI in the classroom as part of a school-wide process that provides assistance to every student, from high achieving to struggling learners. Participants will learn to promote student literacy in their classrooms by: targeting each student’s reading level; monitoring individual student progress; setting up a program that can be implemented in just 20 minutes per day; and involving parents. Helpful resource materials will be provided in class.

“Response to Intervention” will be held on Sat., Nov. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Yasuda Center at Cal State San Bernardino.  The course fee is $140 per person, which includes in-class materials and one unit of continuing education credit.  Advance registration is required by Oct. 29.
