Ontario Quilt Fair: Modern Quilts, Redesigning Traditions

The modern quilt movement is nearly a decade old. It started in the early 2000’s as an online community of like-minded quilters. These artists were inspired by modern design, bold colors, the use of negative space, and alternative fabrics. Today, modern quilters continue to embrace a style usually not seen in traditional quilts. This Summer the Museum and Guest Curator Georganna Hawley worked to promote an open call for entries for the new exhibit, Modern Quilts: Redesigning Traditions.  As a result, over 90 quilts were submitted by talented artists across the United States.  Join the Museum and explore a juried selection of 40-plus modern quilters from the United States and abroad as they consider traditional patterns in new and exciting ways.

Reception, Curator Talk and Walkthrough: Modern Quilts: Redesigning Traditions

Reception from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, Walkthrough from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
Join Guest Curator and Modern Quilter Georganna Hawley as she guides visitors through the exhibit and gives an in-depth talk on the unique look of Modern Quilts.  Light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.  Reservations required.  Free Admission.

Lecture and Trunk Show – Modern Quilting: Past, Present and Future
Tuesday, January 17, 2017 (6 PM to 8 PM)
Learn about the tradition of Modern Quilting, how it originated, where it is now, and what the future may hold, with presenter Latifah Saafir.  Reservations required.  Free Admission.

Meet and Greet for Modern Quilters and Friends
Friday, January 20, 2017 (6 PM to 8 PM)
Meet Guest Curator Georganna Hawley and other modern quilters as they share the joy of making modern quilts.  Light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.  Reservations required.  Free Admission.
