Ontario, CA – An Ontario resident who has volunteered 4,056 hours in the past 20 years for the Travelers Aid of the Inland Empire was honored today by the Ontario City Council at the City of Ontario’s 23rd Annual Volunteer Walk of Fame.
Raquel Casillas, a retired nursing supervisor who arrives every Wednesday afternoon at the Ontario International Airport to help the guests traveling in and out, answers questions and provides them with top-notch customer service with their many travel predicaments, received a bronze star during the special ceremony that acknowledges outstanding City volunteers. Travelers Aid of the Inland Empire provides information and referrals to travelers passing through the Ontario International Airport, and provides assistance to stranded passengers and victims of domestic violence.
Also honored were John Burks, Ontario Police Department; Cherry Dobbs, Ontario Museum of History & Art; Carl Hartig, Travelers Aid of the Inland Empire; Pricilla Ivory, Ontario Recreation & Community Services Department; and Ramiro Torres, Ontario Recreation & Community Services Department.
“Our volunteers are an invaluable community resource who provide a wide range of expertise and experience in support of City programs and services,” Mayor pro Tem Debra Dorst-Porada said. “We could not accomplish all we do without the hundreds of dedicated volunteers in the City.”
The Volunteer “Walk of Fame” was created in 1994 by the Mayor and City Council to recognize the valuable contributions made in the City by community volunteers. While all volunteers and their service hours were acknowledged, a selection of volunteers who have shown exceptional service and commitment to their community were nominated to receive awards. At the Volunteer “Walk of Fame” ceremony, Casillas was presented with a bronze star that will be installed along with past winners next to City Hall.
