Palm Springs, CA – Freehold Communities has announced that Miralon, the sustainably designed community emerging in Palm Springs, California, is now planting its unique olive groves. One of the largest new “agrihoods” in the U.S., Miralon will offer 1,150 Modernist-inspired residences to harmonize with the Coachella Valley’s architectural heritage. A highlight of Miralon’s 300 acres is its transformation of a previously constructed 18-hole golf course into working olive groves, community gardens and walking trails.
Fruit from more than 70 acres of olive trees will eventually be pressed onsite. The oil will be bottled and delivered to residents and sold to the public. The masterplanned community broke ground in Q1, 2018.
“The evolution of the existing golf course into habitat-sensitive, agricultural open space is at the heart of Miralon’s land planning and amenities,” said Freehold California Division President Brad Shuckhart.
It is a response to peoples’ desire for authentic experiences – whether through community gardening or immersion in a rich range of social spaces.”
Former golf cart paths will constitute approximately 6.5 miles of hiking trails. Former tee boxes and greens are being transformed into smaller groves, dog parks, exercise stations, and social areas outfitted with firepits and WiFi.
Miralon’s new info center, located in an Airstream trailer, is expected to open in time for Palm Springs International Film Festival and Modernism Week, both in early 2019. The Robert Hidey-designed clubhouse breaks ground this winter.
