“Southern Africa is a rich source of culture and art,” said Petterson Museum Coordinator Carol Gil. “We see it every day and we are often not even aware of it. This event will be a unique opportunity.”
Admission to the event, being held from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, is free. Featured countries include Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi.
There will be exhibits of artifacts and folk art, including show-and-tell sessions by Pilgrim Place residents who were missionaries in southern Africa. There will also be traditional storytelling and two performances by the Masanga Marimba Musical Group of Cal State Northridge (11:00 am and 1:30 pm). Children’s activities include flag coloring, beadwork, ceramics and other activities.
Food and tastes from southern Africa will also be available. Adults can eat for $5, and children for $3.
Pilgrim Place is located at 625 Mayflower Road in Claremont. To find out more about the event, click here. You can also call Carol Gil at the Petterson Museum at 909-399-5544.
