Phoenix Square, Affordable Housing Project, Anniversary in San Bernardino

San Bernardino, CA (July 1, 2013) – Time for Change Foundation (TFCF), a nonprofit organization providing housing and leadership development to homeless women and children, is proud to announce the upcoming one-year celebration event of its first affordable housing project, The Phoenix Square. The event will take place on July 3rd  2013 at 10:00 a.m., at 657 North F St., San Bernardino, CA.

Time for Change Foundation began developing the Phoenix Square in early 2011, to provide low-income families and individuals with high quality affordable housing. “We at TFCF are focused on  putting money back into the local economy, and we are proud to say that we hired and contracted with local companies and individuals, which led to a 95% local impact in San Bernardino,” said Kim Carter, TFCF Executive Director.

Inaugurated on July 25, 2012 the Phoenix Square was awarded the CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design), and the Crime Free Multi-Housing Certification provided by the City of San Bernardino. “We have had no turnover and the place is immaculate. It just goes to show that low income people take pride in their housing when given a chance,” says John Kunkel, Communications Director for TFCF.

The Phoenix Square’s one-year anniversary will also be celebrating the success of its graduates from the Positive Futures Project. Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA), the Positive Futures Project uses evidenced based programming and evaluation to study the positive outcomes for  women coming home from prison and reentering back into the community.

“This project’s success and data collection will be used by the federal government to influence funding at the national level. We are excited at the possibility of being recognized as a true national model for others to replicate,” says Carter. “We invite the community, particularly the ones that are afraid of low-income housing to join us and celebrate life’s success.”
