“This is an exciting time for Pilgrim Place,” said Bill Cunitz, President and CEO of the 32-acre senior community. “We have recently finished a $26.5 million construction project that gives us three buildings that will be LEED-certified.”
LEED, an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a nationally recognized program with guidelines and standards for structures that are environmentally sensitive and sustainable. Pilgrim Place is the first independent, free-standing senior community in the U.S. to have such a designation.
Pilgrim Place was founded in Claremont in 1915. It is a community for individuals who have been called to careers in religious and charitable non-profit organizations and are now in retirement. Emblematic of the residents at Pilgrim Place is continued activism and outreach to others.
The Open House is from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Opening remarks are at 3:45 at the Plaza at the end of Sixth Street and Mayflower Road, followed by an informal, self-guided walking tour of the campus. Refreshments will be served and there will be music by the Pilgrim Pickers.
