Pomona College Named As Top 10 College By Forbes

Pomona College

Claremont, CA – Forbes named Pomona College one of the nation’s 10 best colleges in its annual list released today.

This year, Harvard was No. 1, Stanford No. 2 and Yale No. 3. Caltech (No. 6) and Pomona College (No. 10) were the two Southern California institutions in the Top 10 among more than 650 colleges nationwide. Pomona is the only small liberal arts college in the Top 10.

Forbes “America’s Top Colleges 2017” rankings are based on a return-on-investment focus that is based on outcomes, from student satisfaction, to graduating on time, student debt incurred and post-graduation job prospects.

Pomona ranked No. 7 last year.

“Before you become a college student, you need to think like a graduate. Our goal is to showcase the colleges and universities that deliver the best return on your education investment dollars: low student debt, on-time graduation, quality academics, high earning potential and career success,” said Caroline Howard, digital managing editor at Forbes Media.

Located in Claremont, Calif., and part of the Claremont Collages, Pomona College is one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges. Established in 1887, Pomona is known for its quality academic programs, a challenging curriculum, close relationships between students and faculty and a range of student research and leadership opportunities.

Important Trends

The FORBES 10th annual Top Colleges ranking speaks directly to four important trends:

  • The disproportionately high number of Ivy League and other highly selective private coastal schools at the highest rungs.
  • The rise of juggernaut STEM and research-oriented universities vs. small prestigious liberal arts colleges.
  • In the vast middle of this list, where the bulk of America’s students study, public schools rose overall in the ranks, while their private counterparts took a small hit.
  • Strong performances on the part of all the service academies.

Students Are Consumers
