Ontario Sustainable Education Garden
The Ontario Museum of History & Art is currently undergoing landscape renovations. The project will transform 2.4 acres of water-consuming turf and asphalt parking lot, on the grounds of the Museum, into a sustainable outdoor educational garden with multiple environmental, economic, health and social benefits.
The new grounds will include two gardens, one that will focus on Native American Tongva Plants and the other will be a California Native Plant Demonstration Garden. There will also be all weather permeable concrete pavers, an infiltration basin, vegetative swales, and educational signage. During this time of construction the Museum will maintain its normal operational hours. The Museum’s main entrance is still located on Transit Street with parking available on the surrounding streets. The project is funded by an Urban Greening Project for Sustainable Communities Grant.

Fontana Public Lands Day
National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. This year the celebration at Mary Vagle Nature Center will include the following projects that allow volunteers to learn through service:
- Water Wise Garden Installations
- Landscaping with Native Plants Tips
- Improvements to the natural area by mulching and providing a Nature Trail update
San Bernardino Cleanup – Perris Hill Park
There are positive changes happening in the City of San Bernardino! On Saturday, September 24, the Quality of Life Team will be hosting a Community #FightBlight Cleanup at Perris Hill Park in San Bernardino. Citizens in the community are being asked to join together with the Police Department, Department of Public Works, Mayor’s Office, City Manager’s Office, CalTrans and Burrtec in an effort to rid blight from the City. California State University San Bernardino has already committed 30 student volunteers to help with the cleanup and are hoping to recruit additional local businesses as well.
The Community Cleanup Days are being planned on a quarterly basis and will coincide with the free city dump days that have been pre-established. The Quality of Life Team is dedicated to improving the overall quality of life for the residents, businesses, as well as visitors throughout the City of San Bernardino. We feel this can be accomplished through problem recognition and problem solving.
Goals of this team include:
- Streamline processes to report blight in the City
- Establish a team of dedicated staff to clean up blight within the City.
- Identify city resources necessary to eradicate illegal dumping.
- Organize clean up procedures and processes.
- Develop partnerships with all of our state and local stakeholders.
