Rancho Cucamonga Fire Fighters Donation Kicks Off Fund Raising Effort for Worn Armed Forces Military Banner Replacement

Gold Star winnerRancho Cucamonga, Ca – The Rancho Cucamonga Professional Fire Fighters Association has committed to a $1,000 donation to assist with replacement of worn and weathered Armed Forces Military Banners in the city.

Since 2005, the City of Rancho Cucamonga has been proud to honor our Armed Forces Service Men and Women through The Armed Forces Banner Program to recognize hometown active duty military personnel. Currently there are over 400 military banners being displayed on major thoroughfares throughout the city.

Several years ago, family members of those who had fallen while serving “Gold Star Families” asked the city how they could assist with raising funds for the Banner Program after they had a successful fundraising effort to assist with construction costs for Freedom Courtyard. “Many of the Banners honoring our Service Men and Women have been up now for several years, and we thought we could help the city, our community, with replacing them.” Shared Rick Creed, father of Sgt. Matthew Creed, killed in Iraq October 22, 2006; “we are proud to be a part of this community and proud to be of service.”

Keeping banners in good condition requires maintenance and sometimes replacement. Over time, banners become worn and weathered due to sun exposure and Santa Ana winds. With each banner costing an average of $170, donations have played a vital role in maintaining a quality Armed Forces Banner Program. “The Rancho Cucamonga Professional Firefighters Association recognized the importance of this program for the community and our members were very supportive of providing this donation to support to our Gold Star Families and the Banner Replacement fund-raising campaign with this pledge.”

The Association’s donation kicks off a week-long Military Banner Replacement Fundraising Campaign, from November 10th through November 17th. Residents are encouraged to visit www.CityofRC.us/BannerDonations to learn more about the campaign and pledge support in honor of our military personnel.
