Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society invites the public to their Thursday, March 20th – 7:00 p.m. program “The Importance of Bees and their Challenges.”
Curious about honeybees and other species of bees in our area, and how it’s possible to remove problem beehives without killing the bees? Or perhaps you want to know what you can do to help the challenges facing bees?
RHIS Board member Brian Romberg, a professional beekeeper and owner of Brian’s Live Bee Removal Services, will be speaking on“The Importance of Bees and their Challenges” at the March 20th general meeting of the Redlands Horticulture and Improvement Society. The meeting takes place at the Church of the Nazarene.
In addition the sharing how he cares for European honeybees and other native bees in our area, Romberg will discuss the challenges facing bees today, such as the environmental problems of high pesticide usage by industrial, professional and backyard gardeners.
“Further challenges include facing and weathering the drought, as we are presently experiencing,” says Romberg, adding that “Bees also have predatory issues, since many reptiles, birds and mammals enjoy eating bees and their honey.”
For the past 20 years, Romberg has been a Master Gardener, affiliated with the University of California, Riverside, and has been a beekeeper for over 25 years. He has offered a professional service of live bee removal for more than 10 years, and conducts business throughout Southern California. In addition to his bee businesses, Romberg has over 40 years experience in arbor care, and runs a tree and landscape company.
Romberg’s live bee removal practices were featured on the Animal Planet program, Pit Bulls and Parolees, when he removed a well-established beehive from the eaves of a home where dogs were kept.
