Riverside Community College District (RCCD) Announces 2016-2017 Board of Trustees Officers

Riverside, CA – The Riverside Community College District Board of Trustees elected officers for 2016-17 at the board organizational meeting last night.

The RCCD Board of Trustee officers for 2016-17 are:

  • Virginia Blumenthal – President
  • Tracey Vackar – Vice President
  • Janet Green – Secretary
  • Mary Figueroa – Member
  • Bill Hedrick – Member

Blumenthal will continue to serve as Board president, a post she has held for five consecutive terms.  Blumenthal has been an RCCD trustee since 2006, is an alumna of RCC and was named 2016 Alumnus of the Year. She is also president of Blumenthal Law Offices in Riverside.

Vackar was elected to the Board in 2014 and will serve as vice president.  She is a former member of the Moreno Valley Unified School District Board of Education and is currently the director of career and technical education in the Fontana Unified School District.

Green will serve as Board secretary; she has been an RCCD trustee since 2006. Green is a retired educational administrator and nurse, as well as a U.S. Veteran.

Figueroa and Hedrick will serve as members at-large. Figueroa, who was elected to the Board in 1995, is currently the longest serving RCCD trustee. She was recently elected to serve on the California Community College Trustee board of directors and is a director on the National Association of Community College Trustees Board.

Hedrick, a newly elected trustee, was a former member of the Corona-Norco Unified School District Board of Education and has had a successful career in public education as a teacher and advocate.

“This Board will definitely advance the Riverside Community College District,” said Michael L. Burke, chancellor. “I look forward to working with each of them. Together we will continue to provide the best academic and services to our students and the community.”

The role of the Board of Trustees is to establish policies to assure the quality, integrity, and effectiveness of the colleges’ programs and services as well as the financial stability of the District.
