RIVERSIDE: Visiting Nurse Association Nurses Recognized by Senator Bill Emmerson

Second Annual “Notable Nurses Awards” Honors Dedication and Accomplishments

Riverside, CA  – The Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center was the backdrop on May 11, 2012 for the 2nd Annual Notable Nurses Awards breakfast hosted by California State Senator Bill Emmerson. Held during National Nurses Week, five nurses from the Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties (VNA) were among 58 honorees. The VNA was the only Home Health and Hospice provider recognized among the Medical Centers and Hospitals represented throughout the 37th District.

Selected by their Chief Nursing Officers for their dedication to healthcare, Senator Emmerson and Assemblyman Jeff Miller congratulated each recipient. VNA’s Candace Acosta, RN Case Manager from the Riverside Hospice office, Cara Allen, RN Case Manager from the Murrieta Home Health Office, Nunzia Lopez, LVN Community Liaison from the Hemet office, Penny Harguess, RN Hospice Clinical Educator from Banning, and Ray Jimenez, RN Case Manager from the Riverside Home Health Office were recognized.

While the District continues to strive for the highest quality healthcare providers, this recognition rewards the hard work that has made a difference throughout the District. “We are delighted that Senator Emmerson has taken time to recognize the impact of nursing in healthcare,” noted Mike Rusnak, CEO of the Visiting Nurse Association. “Nursing continues to play a critical role in health care, on the frontline of patient care. We are the link between patients and their physicians, maintaining the open communications that are so critical during the recovery and healing process,” he concluded.

VNA nurses provide skilled nursing services to over 10,000 patients each year in their homes or places of residence from eight offices located throughout Riverside, San Bernardino, and North San Diego counties.
