Rodney Dillard has a long and varied career resulting in two Grammy nominations, induction into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, and a well known stint on the Andy Griffith Show. During the past 50 years he received worldwide acclaim for both the recording of traditional bluegrass and his own brand of “Dillardgrass”.
Rodney first became a music star in the 1960s when he (guitar), his brother, Doug Dillard (banjo), Dean Webb (mandolin) and the late Mitch Jayne (string bass), formed a new group, known as the Dillards. Cast in the role of the Darlings, a bluegrass playing family in the town of Mayberry, the Dillards are seen on television somewhere in the world nearly every day, thanks to the continuing popularity of The Andy Griffith Show re-runs.
Rodney continued to modernize and re-imagine the sound of bluegrass as he wrote and collaborated with others to write such now classic songs as “There is a Time”, “The Darlin’ Boys”, “Ebo Walker”, and “Dooley”.
A prolific multi-talented artist, Rodney applies his innovation by producing albums for musicians such as Roy Clark and Pat Boone, and for companies such as The Walt Disney Company. Receiving several awards for commercial production and writing, he is a frequent guest on various radio and television programs. Rodney toured the world for 50 years during his career. Today, he is excited to showcase his new band the Dillard Band, and his new album, “I Wish Life Was Like Mayberry”, released on Rural Rhythm Records on September 28th, 2010.
The 800 acre Mojave Narrows Regional Park in Victorville, where the Jubilee is held, sits on an oasis resembling parkland found along the Mississippi River. To reach it, take the Bear Valley Road exit off I-15, then go east to Ridgecrest Ave., and turn north to the park.
