San Bernardino County Fire to Conduct Live Fire Training in Fontana- June 6-8

Fontana, California Don’t be alarmed when you see smoke billowing in north Fontana beginning Monday, June 6th through Wednesday, June 8th, it’s all part of San Bernardino County Fire’s annual live fire training. The fires are scheduled to take place at 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. daily for three days and are all part of a carefully orchestrated regional training burn. However, weather and Air Quality Management District (AQMD) restraints may lead to changes in time.

Fire officials throughout the region will converge in north Fontana to carry out their live fire training on a 100 acre parcel. The training will be contained to an area between Summit Avenue to the south, Citrus, near Casa Grande Drive to the north, Sierra Avenue to the east and Cypress Avenue to the west. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department will be supporting the training exercise by providing aerial firefighting.  We encourage you to avoid the area during the burn times if you have upper respiratory concerns. We do not anticipate any road closures in the area over the course of the three days and for real time information regarding the training burn we ask you to follow @SBCCountyFire on Twitter and “Like” San Bernardino County Fire on Facebook. Updates will be provided several times daily during the three day event.

San Bernardino County has been home to some of the  most destructive wildfires in the nation. A training burn like this allows firefighters to train on strategies and tactics in a safe and controlled environment. If and when a wildfire does occur, firefighters will be better prepared to protect you and your property.
