San Bernardino County Justice Receives Prestigious Award

Kaufman-Campbell Award Presented to Presiding Justice Manuel A. Ramirez

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.  – The San Bernardino County Bar Association, a professional organization of jurists and attorneys, honored Presiding Justice Manuel A. Ramirez with the 2011 Kaufman-Campbell Award on June 9. Each year the association recognizes members of the bench who have worked endlessly to make a difference in the current judicial system. The award was presented at the annual Kaufman-Campbell Awards Banquet, which is organized in honor of the award recipient.

The Kaufman-Campbell Award is given to those that served the appellate bench with distinction and have made significant contributions to the community. Award recipients exemplify the highest standards of judicial excellence in the pursuit of justice while showing integrity, courtesy, wisdom and impartiality.

“Justice Ramirez has been an active member and supporter of the San Bernardino Bar Association for more than 20 years, and has consistently shown all the qualification of this award,” said John S. Lowenthal, president of the San Bernardino County Bar Association. “His honesty and fairness to which he serves the bench is greatly respected and admired. He is a great ambassador of our profession and has done much to improve the local justice system during his career.”

Justice Ramirez, California Fourth District Court of Appeal, Division Two, was unanimous elected for the award by the association’s board of directors. He was nominated for his high ethical standards, professionalism, legal excellence and display of civility.

“It is an honor to join the roster of individuals to receive this prestigious award,” said Justice Ramirez. “Being recognized for my work in the community and in the appellate division is a great milestone in my career, and I thank the Bar Association for their acknowledgement.”

The Kaufman-Campbell award was established in 1999 in honor of two distinguished jurists, Marcus M. Kaufman, former associate justice of the California Supreme Court, and Joseph B. Campbell, former presiding justice of the California Court of Appeal. Past recipients include A. Rex Victor in 2006; Christopher Warner in 2005; Bob Krug in 2004; city of San Bernardino Mayor Patrick Morris in 2003; Dennis Cole, Jules Fleuret and Michael Smith in 2002.
