SAN BERNARDINO: High School Student Honored For Community Service

San Bernardino High School Student Honored For Community Service

San Bernardino, CA – The 19th annual Teens Make A Difference Awards Ceremony recently took place at Inland Center Mall’s Center Court.

Over 100,886 hours of community service were volunteered by 1200 high school students this past year.
The highlight of the night was the “Top Dawg”, Jadin Vendryes. This award is awarded to the student who conducted the most amounts of community service hours. Jadin, a senior at San Bernardino High School had volunteered a total of 1,000 hours in the past year.

Jadin volunteered at Ecclesia Christian Fellowship’s Literacy Lab where she tutored children after school. She was well loved by all her children and her tutoring abilities lead to their academic improvement in areas where some children were failing.

The “Top School” award was granted to Cajon High School, who had 278 students participate in over 26,357 hours of community service.

All students with 25 hours or more were recognized with certificates of recognition, a goody bag filled with fun items including mall coupons from Inland Center stores and tickets to an Inland Empire 66ers baseball game.

“Volunteering is a great way to become involved in your community.” said Megan Karius, Community Impact Coordinator at Arrowhead United Way, “ For teens, volunteering builds character and leadership qualities, and prepares youth for the working and academic environment after high school.
