Counting Down the Days until “Sunshine Day”
Individuals living with mental and physical disabilities look forward to an exclusive day on the fairgrounds during the Festival at the National Orange Show
San Bernardino, Calif – Many excited past participants have been calling the National Orange Show Events Center regularly since early February, often several times each day. Wanting to discuss “Sunshine Day”, a special program during the Festival at the National Orange Show designed specifically for guests living with mental and physical disabilities.
Erica, the Orange Show receptionist, usually answers the calls. “They are super excited about it.” Erica explained, “People want to make sure that we will have someplace where they can purchase jewelry, that we will have hot dogs or corn dogs, that we’ve set up someone to take care of janitorial…Oh, and one individual really wants to make sure that we will have the Shasta brand of diet soda, because that’s the only kind that she drinks.”
The invitation-only special program, an annual part of the Festival at the National Orange Show since the 90s, will open the fairgrounds for the exclusive use of Sunshine Day guests from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012, just prior to the public opening of the second day of the Festival, which runs May 24-28th. The program includes a hosted lunch, strolling attractions, a circus show, pony rides, a petting zoo, and limited carnival rides at no cost to Sunshine Day guests.
