Sixth Biennial — 2012 Ontario Invitational Art Exhibition
The Museum of History and Art, Ontario, Associates is pleased to present its sixth biennial “Ontario Invitational Art Exhibition,” a collection of new artwork by local and regional artists. On view from March 23 through May 27, 2012, “Ontario Invitational Art Exhibition” features artwork by artists: John Harris, Anita Hunt, Keith Klingonsmith, Eric Myles, David Rosales, Froukje Schaafsma-Smith, Tim Stark, Karla Trujillo, Twyla Wardell and Jerry Weems. These artists were selected from the pool of over 100 artists who exhibited in the museum’s juried “2011 Ontario Open Exhibition.” The “2011 Ontario Open Exhibition” was adjudicated by Sant Khalsa, artist/activist, professor and Chair of the Department of Art at California State University, San Bernardino.
In selecting the “Invitational” participants, Professor Khalsa responded enthusiastically to the artists’ skilled execution of diverse expressions and subjects. The resulting “Invitational” showcase explores social drama, cultural identity, personal struggles, cognitive narratives and figurative studies. Students of art will recognize familiar influences such as Expressionism, Primitivism and Surrealism. Other visitors will be captivated by artworks that probe idiosyncratic conceptual art or grand visions of the sublime. This year’s “Invitational” includes artworks that are visually articulated with clarity and technical acumen. The exhibition provides critical, intellectual and aesthetic challenges for a broad scope of museum visitors and a feast for those with a thirst for a cornucopia of new perspectives.
A tradition since 2002, the Museum Associates have hosted the “Ontario Invitational Art Exhibition” as an every-other-year cultural event. To date, thirty-two individuals have been awarded the opportunity in the museum’s biennial “Invitational” exhibition.
