Special Olympics Coming to Fontana

Fontana, California – The Mayor and City Council invite the public to attend or volunteer for the Fourteenth Annual Special Olympics area meet in Fontana.

On Saturday, April 16, Fontana will host the Special Olympics area meet for San Bernardino and Riverside Counties from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fontana High School, located at 9453 Citrus Avenue. At the event, over 600 athletes of all ages and abilities will give their all competing in sports like track and field, swimming, basketball, Bocce ball and more.

“Everyone is welcome, I think our oldest competitor last time was 65-years-old, some are in wheelchairs, and they’re all quite competitive,” said Pat Lehman, one of the organizers for the event.

The Special Olympics meet is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Fontana and Co-sponsored by the City of Fontana and the Fontana Unified School District. For more information on this year’s event, volunteering or becoming a sponsor, please call Pat Lehman at (909) 829-7884.
