Offering Great Opportunities for Fontana’s Youth

Fontana, California, May 19, 2011. The Mayor and City Council invite the public to take advantage of the summer camp opportunities available for Fontana’s youth. The City of Fontana’s Community Services Department is offering a wide range of camps that provide a safe, supervised and positive environment while also creating a place for kids to go when school is not in session.

Camp Imagination is a full day camp that runs for two weeks, Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  At Camp Imagination, kids stay active everyday with outdoor and indoor games, favorite camp songs and building of long lasting friendships.  This camp is for children 6-11.  Four sessions will be offered: session 1 is June 6-17, session 2 is June 20 – July 1, session 3 is July 5-15 (no camp on July 4th) and session 4 is July 18-29. Science Discovery Camp is for children ages 7 to 11. This camp is a week long summer program that includes hands-on science activities, nature hikes, and a field trip. There will be four sessions of the camp; July 5-8, July 11-15, July 18-22, and July 25-29.The Science Discovery camp will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, and will take place at the Nature Center located at 11501 Cypress Ave. For more information contact the Nature Center at (909) 349-6994.

Fontana Arts Summer Camp combines visual art and performing art instruction in an exciting week long session running Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Practice theatrical and artistic skills including: acting, improv, singing, painting, drawing, and much more!  Camp will conclude with a showcase of visual art and performance material for friends and family.  This camp is for children 7-12.  Three sessions will be offered: the week of July 11, July 18 and July 25.  The camp takes place at the Art Depot and the Steelworkers’ Auditorium located at 8437 Sierra Avenue. Camp FON-Teen is for teens ages 12-17. This camp gives teens a safe and fun environment where they can spend their summer. Camp FON-Teen will run Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. With the purchase of the annual Teen Center membership ($5), teens can stay until 8pm. The camp will include group activities, arts and crafts, lunch and much more. The FON-Teen summer camp sessions begin the week of May 30, and conclude on the week of August 1.The camp will take place at the Jack Bulik Center at 16581 Filbert Street. For more information contact the Jack Bulik Teen Center at (909) 349-6984.

Registration for Fontana’s Summer Camps are on a first come, first served basis. A copy of the camper’s birth certificate is required upon registration. Registration dates and fees vary depending on the camp. Additional $10 fee applies to non-residents. Lunch will be provided by FUSD summer lunch program from June 6 – July 29. For more information on summer camps call (909) 349-6900 or online at summercamps.fontana.org.
