Temecula: Special Olympics Torch Run and Celebration BBQ

Special Olympics Temecula

Special Olympics Southern California, Inland Empire is hosting its 18th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run and Celebration BBQ

Temecula, Calif. — Special Olympics athletes and law enforcement officers will carry the Flame of Hope through the streets of Temecula to raise awareness and funds for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

We are kicking off the run with an opening ceremony at Pechanga Resort & Casino. The ceremony will include presentations by local law enforcement, Special Olympics athletes and members of the community.

Immediately following the ceremony, officers will carry the “Flame of Hope” from Pechanga Resort & Casino through the streets of Temecula Valley. When the torch arrives in Old Town Temecula, Special Olympics athletes will join the officers. Together, they will carry the “Flame of Hope” down Front Street in historic Old Town.

The runners will then head east along Rancho California Road into the rolling hills of wine country and arrive at Wilson Creek Winery for a Celebration BBQ, which will include live, dancing, a silent auction and a Unified Bocce competition.

This is a FUN RUN to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Southern California Inland Empire Region. This is not a race and runners can run a portion of the leg or as many legs as you want. Shuttle service will be provided back to your starting point if needed.

Through the Torch Run, the officers raise awareness and funds for the more than 37,100 athletes of Special Olympics Southern California. They also educate the community about the gifts, talents and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities and promote unity and respect for all. For this particular leg, all funds raised will go directly to benefit Special Olympics athletes in the Inland Empire Region.

There are three ways the community throughout the Inland Empire can support this event:

  1. Create a fundraising team. You can participate in the FunRun only or you can do the run and/or…
  2. Attend the BBQ Celebration at Wilson Creek Winery which includes a full course meal with 2 drink
tickets, live entertainment from The Burt Brion Band, silent auction and Unified Bocce Competition.
  3. Donate to the event via Sponsorship or with an In-Kind donation towards our silent auction.
