Thanksgiving Service Highlights Diverse Musical Traditions

Music from various faith traditions will be a highlight of the 32nd Annual San Bernardino Community Thanksgiving Service which will be held on Tuesday, November 23rd at 7:30 pm at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 796 W. 43rd Street, San Bernardino. This annual service is sponsored by the San Bernardino Clergy Association.

“Thanksgiving is a time for all of us to reflect on the blessings we enjoy in America. We particularly cherish the rich diversity of our nation and community. That diversity will be expressed in the music of our annual Community Thanksgiving service” said Rev. Petra Malleis-Sternberg, president of the San Bernardino Clergy Association.

Music will be provided by the Mariachi Band of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, the choir of St. Paul AME Church, the Bell Choir of First Congregational United Church of Christ, the choir of Congregation Emanu El and the Youth Choir of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Additionally, the assembled congregation will join in traditional Thanksgiving hymns as well as hymns celebrating the greatness of America.

Reflections on the significance of Thanksgiving will be given by Rev. Larry Campbell, Father Leonard DePasquale, Rev. Petra Malleis-Sternberg and Rabbi Hillel Cohn.

The entire community is invited to join in worship and celebration at this service which brings the Jewish, Christian, Islamic and other communities together. It is especially significant that this Thanksgiving we also celebrate the Bicentennial of San Bernardino.

All attending are encouraged to bring non-perishable food which will then be distributed to the hungry of the community.
