San Bernardino, CA – Now in its twelfth year, The DisABILITY Sports Festival was created to help inspire, educate and advocate for the largest and most underrepresented minority group in the nation. The event is completely free to ANY person with ANY disability, and introduces our participants with disabilities to over 25 different sports coached by Paralympian coaches, elite or internationally competing athletes with a disability and local professional sports teams such as the LA Kings, LA Galaxy and the LA Dodgers.
This years event is Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at California State University, San Bernardino.
In previous years, our participants (ranging from 2 to 84 years old, including many wounded warrior veterans) have come from the Inland Empire, LA County and many other states to participate in this life changing event. This year, we are expecting over 800 participants (including veterans) at the festival. Between the athletes, volunteers, community partners and family members, we are expecting to have 1500- 2000 people in attendance.
Over the years, we have watched this event not only change the lives of our participants but everyone in attendance. We have the opportunity to give people, who for their entire lives have been told “no”, a chance to say “yes”. “Can I participate in archery without an arm?” YES! “Can I run a mile without a leg or participate in Judo without sight?” YES! For any person with a disability, this event helps to increase confidence and for many, it is their only opportunity to be physically active all year.

This event brings together a people that historically have not been given a voice. This event not only gives them a voice, but it gives them hope and it gives them confidence that no one anywhere and at any time and in any place can ever tell them again that they are not able, that they cannot succeed, that they are less than perfect. This event creates that moment, that instant of clarity to not just think they are able…but to know it.
