The IEEP’s initiative to improve our region’s quality of life through awareness of resources, opportunities and challenges

San Bernardino, CA – January 25, 2011. The Inland Empire Quality of Life Summit, presented by the Inland Empire Economic Partnership (IEEP) will take place on March 31 – April 1, 2011 at the CSU San Bernardino Campus.

The first day of the conference, March 31st will recognize Cesar Chavez Day. The event will recognize the accomplishments of Mr. Chavez toward the advancement of the Latino community. As a Mexican-American, Chavez relentlessly advocated for the civil rights and fair treatment of farm workers through the establishment of the United Farm Workers union. Chavez utilized non-violent tactics to bring awareness to the often horrendous working conditions of field workers. A man who inspired millions, Cesar Chavez will serve as another example to our region that positive change is possible. A step toward this positive change is the Quality of Life Summit.

Appropriately, the keynote for the day will be Mr. Juan Sepúlveda, Director, White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. Director Sepúlveda is responsible for leading the efforts of the White House Initiative in engaging Hispanic students, parents, families, organizations, and other stakeholders with the education system in communities across the country as active participants in improving the academic success of Hispanic Americans.

In addition to Mr. Sepulveda, the conference will also feature panel discussions covering education and workforce development. A panel entitled “FACE of Collaboration: Reinventing Education Rebuilding our Economy” will feature Enrique G. Murillo, Jr., Ph.D., Executive Director of Latino Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD), Leslie Rodden, MA, Director of Alliance for Education, Kim McNulty, Program Manager, Career Pathways Initiative with the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership, and Shelagh Camak, Executive Director, Workforce Development at Riverside Community College.
