The Riverside Art Museum Celebrates the 50th Annual Press-Enterprise Riverside County High School Art Show

Riverside CA – The Riverside Art Museum (RAM) announces the opening of The 50th Annual Press-Enterprise Riverside County High School Art Show. The exhibition runs from April 5 – 26, 2012, with a special awards reception on Thursday, April 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Continuing a tradition that is now in its 50th year, the Riverside Art Museum is proud to celebrate its long history hosting the Press-Enterprise Riverside County High School Art Show. High school students across the county will submit a piece of original artwork within the categories of: Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Mixed Media / Collage, Acrylic / Oil Painting, Watercolor, Drawing in Black and White / Ink, Drawing in Color, and Graphic Art. All artwork will be judged by a panel of respected figures in the local art community to select winners from each category, as well as ‘Best of Show,’ sponsor-selected awards, and honorable mentions. While in the past, RAM has only exhibited the award-winning pieces, the museum will celebrate this momentous anniversary by displaying all artwork submissions, which may total three-to-four hundred pieces of artwork. While the winning pieces will be hung apart from the remaining artwork, specific award designations will not be revealed or marked until the evening of the award ceremony on Thursday, April 12th. Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place winners will receive cash awards, while sponsorship award winners will receive a prize of the sponsor’s choice. Honorable Mentions will receive an official award certificate. The Riverside Art Museum’s sponsorship award will feature an honorary one-year student-level museum membership. And for those friends and family that aren’t able to make it out, the exhibition also includes a ‘virtual gallery’ of all artwork submissions, viewable online, from April 6 – 31, at: www.pe.com/student-art-show.

RAM relies on the generosity of members and donors to support its exhibitions, education programs, and special events. A 50-plus-year-old, private, non-profit cultural arts institution housed in a National Historic 1929 building designed by Hearst Castle architect Julia Morgan, the museum welcomes over 50,000 visitors a year. The museum is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. For information on exhibits, events, classes, memberships, or sponsorship opportunities, visit www.RiversideArtMuseum.org.
