The University of Redlands Visiting Writers Series: Richard Wirick

The Creative Writing Department is pleased to announce its next Visiting Writers Series event of the semester, a reading by writer Richard Wirick.

Richard Wirick is the author of a new short story collection, Kicking In (2010), in which “narcotic euphoria meets the demands of everyday life.”  A review in the Los Angeles Times explains that reading these “13 gorgeous and atmospheric stories” is “like falling fast down a deep, dark hole, then falling further. Yet every story here speaks to the further ambitions of its author, and the Blakean illuminations of faith he constructs.”  His previous book, One Hundred Siberian Postcards (2006), was inspired by his experience adopting a daughter from Russia and has been described as “brilliantly executed” and “magical.”  His stories and articles have appeared in many publications including the Los Angeles Times, Playboy, LA Weekly, Fiction, and the Santa Monica Review.  He is the co-founder of the literary journal Transformation and is also a practicing lawyer in Los Angeles.

Please join us for a reading by Richard Wirick on Thursday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m. (please note the earlier start time) in Hall of Letters 100, to be followed by a reception and book-signing with the author.  This event is free and open to the public.
