The University of Redlands Visiting Writers Series: Rusty Morrison

The Creative Writing Department is pleased to announce its first Visiting Writers Series event of the Spring 2011 season, a reading by poet Rusty Morrison.

Rusty Morrison’s work, poet Susan Howe has said, seems to “answer to William James’ description of our consciousness . . . ‘Like a bird’s life . . . made of an alteration of flights and perchings.’”  Her books of poetry include the true keeps calm biding its story, which won the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets and Ahsahta’s Sawtooth Prize; the Noemi Press chapbook, The Book of the Given; Whethering; and After Urgency, forthcoming in 2012.  Her poems have appeared in the American Poetry Review, Boston Review, and Chicago Review, among others.  Rusty Morrison has been lauded by the Poetry Society of America and is currently the co-publisher of Omnidawn Press.  She lives in Northern California.

Please join us for a reading by Rusty Morrison on Thursday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Hall of Letters 100, to be followed by a reception and book-signing with the author.  This event is free and open to the public.

Upcoming events in the Visiting Writers Series will include short story author Pamela Painter on February 24, Manuel Muñoz and Lisa Alvarez from Sudden Fiction Latino on March 31, and the annual Redlands Review/Senior Portfolio student reading on April 14.
