UCR Jazz Ensembles: An Evening of Jazz and Popular Music

The University of California, Riverside, Department of Music presents an evening of jazz and popular music. Under the direction of Matt Zebley, the UCR Jazz Ensembles perform a variety of big band arrangements and compositions by Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Holman and others. The UCR Undergraduate Jazz Combo begins the concert, followed by contemporary music performed by talented student singer/songwriters. The evening concludes with a performance by The Oversize Quartet, a professional jazz ensemble dedicated to the compositions of director, Matt Zebley.

Matt Zebley, director of the UCR Jazz and Wind Ensembles, received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California in 2010. For his doctoral thesis, he researched the intersections of music education and music technology, and studied with some of the leading wind controller performers and sound designers in the music industry, such as Bob Mintzer and Judd Miller.
