University of Redlands Announces Call for Outstanding Practice in Educational Justice Award
Redlands, CA —The University of Redlands’ Center for Educational Justice is pleased to announce its Outstanding Practice in Educational Justice Award, which will honor a California educator or program and will be presented at the Center’s Summer Institute on July 10. The Summer Institute will explore the topic of “Inequality, poverty, and school achievement: Relationships Too Powerful to Ignore!”
“This prestigious award is designed to recognize the real and measurable impact that a remarkable practitioner or program has achieved in the lives of children who are at risk in our schools,” said Dr. Jose Lalas, Director of the Center for Educational Justice at the School of Education. “As part of the nomination process, we anticipate not just traditional letters of recommendation but demonstrations of amazing results and interviews with parents, students, administrators and other teachers.”
The work of this outstanding educator or program will be showcased on July 10 during the Summer Institute of the Center for Educational Justice. In addition, workshops and presentations at the one-day event are designed to heighten the awareness of educational justice and the critical issues facing America’s K-12 schools.
The 8th annual Summer Institute will be held at the University of Redlands’ Orton Center on Tuesday, July 10. Teachers, administrators, aides, private and public education professionals, and those interested in educational justice and education issues are encouraged to attend. The day will include a keynote presentation by Dr. David C. Berliner, a well-known educational psychologist and Regents’ Professor Emeritus at Arizona State University.
Nominations for the Outstanding Practice in Educational Justice Award are due by May 30. To be considered, the person or program being nominated must have two letters of nomination from sponsoring individuals. The letters of nomination should specify:
· What specific initiatives the nominee or program has taken
· What effects these initiatives have had
· Why this person or program deserves to receive the award
