University of Redlands Speech – Language Pathology Program Among the Best in the Nation

University of Redlands Speech-Language Pathology program among the best in the nation
The program ranks in U.S. News Best Graduate Schools

Washington, D.C.  – The University of Redlands Speech-Language Pathology program was recognized in the 2012 edition of Best Graduate Schools by U.S. News Media Group. The Speech-Language Pathology graduate program is housed in the Truesdail Center for Communicative Disorders under the College of Arts and Sciences. Redlands also ranks highly in U.S. News Regional University West Rankings and Best Value Schools.

Speech-language pathology is a competitive field for those who wish to help people with communication (speech, language, and/or voice) disorders and swallowing difficulties. At the end of the two-year graduate program at Redlands, the student will earn the California State license, California Speech Language Pathologist Services Credential (SLPS), and ASHA certification after completing a fellowship experience.

Highlights of the rankings are available in the Best Graduate Schools 2012 edition book. The 2012 Best Graduate Schools includes essential, detailed statistical information on more than 1,200 programs nationwide.

“It is a great honor to be among the best graduate programs in the nation,” said David Fite, vice president for academic affairs. It is a testament to the outstanding teaching and research at our Truesdail Center for Communicative Disorders, Fite added.

The methodology used in the U.S. News health rankings is based solely on the results of peer assessment surveys sent to deans, other administrators, and/or faculty at accredited degree programs or schools in each discipline. All schools surveyed in a discipline were sent the same number of surveys. Respondents rated the academic quality of programs on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding). They were instructed to select “don’t know” if they did not have enough knowledge to rate a program. Only fully accredited programs in good standing during the survey period are ranked. Those schools with the highest average scores appear in the rankings.

“We believe the success of our program, spanning over 50 years, is a result of personalized education with small classes and an excellent in-house clinic with state-of-the-art audio and video teaching capabilities,” said Michael Groher, director of the Truesdail Center for Communicative Disorders. There is an undeniable energy with clients coming from the surrounding community and students rushing from clinic to classroom, added Groher.
